This document seeks to establish through a theoretical review the different personality profiles of men who engage in violence as a couple, as well as contextual factors that influence its materialization. For this, concepts such as personality, personality traits and partner violence were approached from the theoretical contribution of various authors; Likewise, some personality profiles of abusive men were established, as well as the contextual factors that may influence its materialization. The main results show that impulsivity, emotional instability, lack of control over anger, difficulties in expressing emotions, cognitive distortions, communication skills deficits and low self-esteem are characteristic traits of abusive men, It was also identified that there are personality profiles of abusive men associated with traits of neuroticism, extraversion and psychoticism. Finally, it was evidenced that the sociodemographic variables, the family characteristics of the aggressor and the consumption of psychoactive substances are also risk factors for this behavior.
