Hand hygiene through it´s five moments, is a key action in patient safety, according to WHO (2009) “clean care is safer care” (p.6), In Colombia nosocomial infections or Associated Infections to Health Care, is located in the first place, with a 37.4% (Minsalud, 2008) In the Oncologists Clinic of the West, Pereira, Maraya headquarters, during the months of January to June , presented a general infection rate of 4%, predominantly the infections associated with the bloodstream-central catheter and the infections of the operative site. (Comité de Infecciones Oncólogos de Occidente, 2019). Reason why it was important to determine the degree of adherence to the protocol of hand hygiene in the chemotherapy and radiology services, through the evaluation of knowledge about the protocol of hand hygiene with the recommendations of WHO, using the observed observation of the technique of hygiene and microbiological verification through luminometry (Relative Light Units -URL). Of the 20 health workers selected at random, the radiology service was the most representative with 80%, as well as the female sex and technical training degree, the average age of the participants was 36 years. For the entity, the activities carried out allowed an increase in the adherence in both services, with an improvement in the adherence in the degree of knowledge, hand hygiene technique with adherence values greater than 90% and a decrease in the URLs through the technique of luminometry, achieving a greater impact on the radiology service Regarding the consumption of disinfection methods such as soap and glycerinated alcohol, no differences in consumption were observed in both services. According to the results obtained, it was recommended to periodically implement evaluation methods for the staff in the face of knowledge and practice of the documented handwashing technique and, as far as possible, achieve the achievement of hygiene elements, such as sensor sinks, to facilitate adherence to the protocol. of hand hygiene in the entity.
