Resumen
The main objective of this study was to demonstrate how intellectual disability is not an impediment for a person to undertake and develop in the workplace for the generation of income, entrepreneurship and self-employment, based on the identification of strengths to formulate strategies of change in lifestyle and place in society. The methodology used was qualitative and descriptive approach of case report, where by means of a non-probabilistic selection for convenience a 22-year-old woman with mild intellectual disability was selected, to whom a semi-structured interview was applied in which she was interviewed. They explored personal, family, social, economic and academic aspects. The study made it possible to demonstrate that the participant has overcome socioeconomic barriers through the generation of income, entrepreneurship and self-employment despite their difficulties with mathematical operations. It is concluded that cases such as that of the participant in this study can be presented with greater incidence in the country if sustainable entrepreneurship programs are established for people with disabilities. In addition, it is plausible to consider that people with mild intellectual disability can overcome their own cognitive limitations under a properly oriented personal development model.
