Resumen
The university environment exposes the student to a series of potentially complicated situations that can affect their health by impacting both their physical and mental health. This is presented as academic demands are accompanied by a demanding pace of study, long hours, pressure from teachers, competitiveness among peers and changes in health habits. This article presents a systematic review of the accumulated literature over a period of 10 years between 2008 and 2018 in the English and Spanish languages that allowed integrating information from five databases where articles that contribute to the discussion about the relationship were found between academic stress in university students with health habits, adaptation to university life, general health and emotional regulation, variables that directly influence the cognitive and behavioral development of the student being able, depending on their condition, to predict success or academic failure. To carry out this systematic review, five databases were taken into account, where articles with five inclusion criteria were filtered, reaching a total of 50 articles after the final review. As a result, the research associates mainly sociodemographic, family, cultural and economic conditions in the appearance of significant levels of stress in university students, where elements such as coping styles, levels of self-efficacy, age and year of study stand out; The combination of these factors directly affect academic performance, health habits, functionality and well-being, generating physical, emotional and psychic manifestations.
