Resumen
The origin of most of the problems suffered by dogs and cats in the world is, without any doubt, its overpopulation. The birth of unwanted litters causes abandonment, abandonment the proliferation of animals without owner, and unowned animals new uncontrolled litters that add to the abandoned animals. Sterilization consists of "making infertile what was not before", being recognized for some time as the most effective means to control pet populations. The aim of the present literature review is to know the different techniques or methods of sterilization in dogs and cats, to know their advantages and disadvantages in regard to its realization. A systematic search was made of publications in the databases, scientific journals and subsequently, a valuation based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria established, around 97 articles were found and finally 25 were selected, which were more related to the topic.
