The development of the economy in different contexts has been the fundamental pillar of the development of nations; The cooperative sector in recent years has taken an important role in this context, the application of intellectual capital is essential as a competitive advantage for an increasingly globalized world. In this way the following work aims to analyze the intellectual capital in cooperatives of the banana sector of the Department of Magdalena based on the position of various authors such as Pérez (2008), Vargas (2006), Segui and Server (2010), Delgado, Navas and Cruz (2011); likewise, Cegarra, Sabater and Ruiz (2003), among others who with their great contributions allowed to reach the stated objective that motivated the investigation. To carry out this work, it was used in a type of documentary research, with a non-experimental and transectional or transversal design. Bibliographic records were used as support tools to collect the information, resulting in the Magdalena banana cooperatives not making the most of the intellectual capital, due to the absence of information reflecting this in relational type failures. The existence and use of intellectual capital are necessary in a changing market and increasingly demanding requirements, it is noteworthy that intellectual capital not only refers to human capital, there are other types of capital that are framed in this concept, such as it is the structural and the relational. the use and knowledge of this type of capital, puts the cooperative sector in a competitive advantage because knowing which resources account can generate a maximum use of them. It is recommended to establish practical and didactic methods that allow the associates to appropriate the information and develop the productive knowledge reflected in a significant advance in the Magdalena banana cooperatives.
