The objective of the formative research was focused on the elaboration of a tourist diagnosis in competitiveness and innovation in the department of Meta. The methodology used is exploratory-descriptive. Through a diagnosis were identified and analyzed the factors of macroenvironment and microenvironment that directly affect the tourist sector of Meta. Therefore, an instrument called innovation radar will be applied. The results obtained are reflected in the seven dimensions that it covers: Strategic Planning, Core Competencies, R & D Effectiveness, Decision Making, Customer Focus, Cooperative Networks and Corporate Culture. It was found that the most outstanding variables of the tourist companies are in the R & D Effectiveness. They have processes to generate ideas using internal and external sources, they have a budget for tests and prototypes and production is involved in part of the production process. There is development in the competitiveness and innovation of the sector in the region. Different factors are identified that must be improved to increase the development of the region
