Resumen
Periodontal disease is a multifactorial etiology pathology that is perpetuated as one of the major public health problems at the national level, so it is of great importance that it is addressed integrally, which implies that institutions that train human talent in dentistry ensure the early acquisition of knowledge, attitudes and practices in students, as this will determine their clinical practice as future professionals in dentistry. OBJECTIVE: To describe knowledge, attitudes and practices on the management of risk factors of periodontal disease in students of the adult clinic III in the faculty of dentistry of the cooperative university of Colombia. Headquarters Bogotá MATERIALS AND METHODS: 35 dental students completed a semi-structured survey to assess their knowledge, attitudes and practices; qualitative analysis was conducted in the NVIVO-12 program organizing, analyzing and finding unstructured data perspectives and/or trends; data triangulation was conducted in focus groups of specialists in the area. RESULTS: In the study population it was observed that knowledge, attitudes and practices focus on local risk factors limited to the oral cavity evidencing the lack of comprehensive clinical care. CONCLUSIONS: Dental care has suffered a mechanistic type of reductionism that separates the patient from the disease, causing the professional not to recognize the patient integrally.
