Resumen
Describe oral health conditions and oral hygiene practices in pregnant women attended by IPS Cafi Kennedy, Bogotá. An observational composite descriptive study was conducted on 22 pregnant women over the age of 18 attending the prenatal control service of IPS CAFI Kennedy (2018). The O’Leary indexes and the POP were evaluated, oral health conditions and practices were interviewed and data triangulation was performed. The age range was between 19 and 47 years, averaging 27.8 years. There is evidence of defined oral hygiene, with the range of O Leary between 34% and 84%, with an average of 56%, and the range of POPs fluctuated between 4 and 22 clogged, decayed and Lost teeth. As for oral hygiene practices, the frequency of brushing was 2 times a day with 64%, 68% used toothbrush and toothpaste, 66% with low knowledge about oral health. The result of the triangulation found that the pregnant women of the study know how to take care of the mouth, but they have a low regularity in the practice of daily brushing and the almost absent use of dental floss. Consequently, there is evidence of a high O Leary index, POPs index, low promotion and prevention of oral and general health, lack of visits to the dentist and lack of use of oral hygiene equipment, evidence and contributes to a low oral health of the pregnant woman.
