Objectives: To determine the occupational factors that generate stress in the nursing professionals of the ICU service, in accordance with the review of studies in the scientific literature. Method: Quantitative study with a document review design approach, databases from the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and other free access databases were used, finding 1,545, after making selection criteria, 21 articles were used to collect the information. Results: The intensive care unit is considered a service with a high level of stress that is related to their working and environmental conditions, in nursing the factors that generate stress are mainly related to the conditions of their patients such as death, suffering from them and the difficulty in coping with these emotions. The scale most used for this type of studies is The Nursing Stress Scale and the most notorious consequences of work are dissatisfaction, irritability and feelings of frustration. Conclusions: It is evident that the factors that most trigger stress in nurses in the ICU service are the death and suffering of the patient, generating physical and psychological consequences, the level of stress is high and this is calculated by the Nursing Stress Scale.
