The term mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is defined as an intermediate stage between the normality of cognition and dementia. The present study had as main objective to describe the symptomatology of Mild Cognitive Impairment in institutionalized older adults and of the community of the Colombian Caribbean coast. The specific objectives were: to identify the possible presence of mild cognitive impairment symptoms in institutionalized older adults and the community on the Colombian Caribbean coast; To detail aspects of the health system that receive institutionalized older adults and the community of the Colombian Caribbean coast. The type of design implemented for this research was the quantitative descriptive, non-experimental and transversal. To measure the variable were used instruments such as Minimental (Mini Cognitive Examination) and Global Deterioration Scale (GDS). The results indicated that 24% of the sample had DCL. As a conclusion, it can be said that in the selected sample of older adults in the Colombian Caribbean coast the presence of DCL is lower than that of Alzheimer's disease.
