Resumen
The objective of this text is to present a theoretical review of the state of the art on the functionality and structure of communication offices in the business sector. This state of the art contributes to the foundation and gives an account of the novelty presented by the research entitled Evaluación sistemática del ejercicio de las comunicaciones en el sector empresarial en Medellín y Bogotá carried out by the UCC between 2018 and 2019. For this purpose, a contextualization is made, as well as a theoretical approach to organizational communication and its evolution, and, subsequently, the systemic reading of communication is established as a reference basis of the search, in coherence with the theory proposed by Niklas Luhmann. The search is made based on a mapping of specialized databases and institutional repositories, establishing the categories of functionality and structure of the organizations as selection criteria; as an initial finding, the lack of available bibliography directly related to these categories of analysis stands out, since out of 29 total findings, only 7 texts were relevant to the objectives set. Then, due to the limited and scattered bibliography available, reviews of the related texts were made, summarizing and commenting on the meeting points with this investigation. As findings, some featured items are obtained regarding the communication flowchart in the organizations, the functions exercised by communicators in the business sector, the training required by communicators according to the profile of the organization and the change of profile that communication has historically obtained in companies. Finally, reflections regarding the research findings are made.
