- ÍtemA 6-amino acid insertion/deletion polymorphism in the mucin domain of TIM-1 confers protections against HIV-1 infection.(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina, Medellín y Envigado, 2016-09-18) Biasin, Mara; Sironi, Manuela; Saulle, Irma; Pontremoli, Chiara; Garziano, Micaela; Cagliani, Rachele; Trabattoni, Daria; Caputo, Sergio Lo; Vichi, Francesca; Mazzotta, Francesco; Forni, Diego; Riva, Stefania; Aguilar Jimenez, Wbeimar; Cedeño, Samandhy; Sanchez, Jorge; Brander, Christian; Zapata Builes, Wildeman; Rugeles, María Teresa; Clerici, MarioWe investigated whether a 6-amino acid insertion/deletion polymorphism in the mucin domain of TIM-1 (T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 1), modulates susceptibility to HIV-1 infection. The polymorphism was genotyped in three case/control cohorts of HIV-1 exposed seronegative individuals (HESN) and HIV-1 infected subjects from Italy, Peru, and Colombia; data from a Thai population were retrieved from the literature. Across all cohorts, homozygosity for the short TIM-1 allele was more common in HESNs than in HIV-1 infected subjects. A metaanalysis of the four association analyses yielded a p value of 0.005. In vitro infection assays of CD4þ T lymphocytes indicated that homozygosity for the short allele is associated with lower rate of HIV-1 replication. These results suggest that the deletion allele protects from HIV-1 infection with a recessive effect.
- ÍtemA novel approach to create an antibacterial surface using titanium dioxide and a combination of dip-pen nanolithography and soft lithography(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Odontología, Medellín y Envigado, 2018-10-25) Arango-Santander, Santiago; Arango-Santander, Santiago; Pelaez-Vargas, Alejandro; Freitas, Sidónio; García, Claudia; Arango-Santander, SantiagoSoft lithography and Dip-Pen Nanolithography (DPN) are techniques that have been used to modify the surface of biomaterials. Modifed surfaces play a role in reducing bacterial adhesion and bioflm formation. Also, titanium dioxide has been reported as an antibacterial substance due to its photocatalytic efect. This work aimed at creating patterns on model surfaces using DPN and soft lithography combined with titanium dioxide to create functional antibacterial micropatterned surfaces, which were tested against Streptococcus mutans. DPN was used to create a master pattern onto a model surface and microstamping was performed to duplicate and transfer such patterns to medical-grade stainless steel 316L using a suspension of TiO2. Modifed SS316L plates were subjected to UVA black light as photocatalytic activator. Patterns were characterized by atomic force microscopy and biologically evaluated using S. mutans. A signifcant reduction of up to 60% in bacterial adhesion to TiO2-coated and -micropatterned surfaces was observed. Moreover, both TiO2 surfaces reduced the viability of adhered bacteria after UV exposure. TiO2 micropatterned demonstrated a synergic efect between physical and chemical modifcation against S. mutans. This dual efect was enhanced by increasing TiO2 concentration. This novel approach may be a promising alternative to reduce bacterial adhesion to surfaces.
- ÍtemA sociodemographic view and a look at health conditions prior to the implementation of peace agreements in the municipalities of Leiva, Policarpa and Los Andes in Nariño(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina, Pasto, 2020-12) Salas Zambrano, Luis Andrés; Montenegro Coral, Franco Andrés; Benavides Melo, Julie Andrea; Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia; Corporación Universitaria Minuto de DiosKnowledge of the factors that influence the health status of a population and their casuistry is important when directing prevention strategies at the local level, as well as when guiding the actions of the provision of health services by the corresponding entities. In this chapter, the epidemiological profiles of three municipalities in the department of Nariño (Leiva, Policarpa and Los Andes), beneficiaries of the “Alternativas de desarrollo rural para la construcción de paz” or “Rural development alternatives for peacebuilding” program, will be addressed. The profile of each municipality was constructed by reviewing key documents such as: the analysis of the health situation of the department of Nariño with the model of social determinants, ASIS, epidemiological bulletins with the basic health indicators of the department of Nariño, municipal development plans, territorial planning schemes, population projections of the “Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadísticas” (DANE) or “National Administrative Department of Statistics”, and administrative management reports for the aforementioned municipalities for 2017 and 2018. A sociodemographic analysis is presented for each location, emphasizing the morbidity and mortality indicators in the population. According to the analysis of health indicators, problems are being evidenced that affect the physical, mental and social wellbeing of the inhabitants of the three municipalities at different life stages such as early childhood, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and the elderly. They are problems that intervene in a significant and unfavorable way in the development and progress of a municipality and its inhabitants, since health is vital and fundamental for work and school performance, in both the family and social environment. It was possible to identify health problems that require greater attention when planning intersectoral, cross-sectoral, community and individual actions of promotion and prevention, since these are the instances directly involved in the development of a new perspective of health; as it is the promotion of integral self-care that improves the quality of life of the affected communities.
- ÍtemA specific structure and high richness characterize intestinal microbiota of HIVexposed seronegative individuals(Grupo Infettare, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Medellin, Colombia, 2021-12-02) Zapata Builes, Wildeman; Lopera, Tulio J.; Lujan, Jorge A.; Zurek, Eduardo; Hernández López, Juan Carlos; Toro, Miguel A.; Alzate, Juan F.; Taborda, Natalia A.; Rugeles, Maria T.; Aguilar-Jimenez, WbeimarIntestinal microbiota facilitates food breakdown for energy metabolism and influences the im-mune response and maintaining mucosal homeostasis. Overall, HIV infection is associated with intestinal dysbiosis and immune activation, which has been related to seroconversion in HIV-exposed individuals. However, to date, it is unclear whether microbiota dysbiosis is the cause or the effect of immune alterations and disease progression. We characterize the intestinal microbiota and determine its association with immune regulation in HIV-exposed seronegative individuals (HESN), HIV-infected progressors (HIV+), and healthy control (HC) subjects. For this, feces and blood were collected. The microbiota composition of HESN showed a significantly higher alpha and beta diversity compared to HC, but similar to HIV+. A lower Treg percentage was observed in HESN than HC and HIV+, with enrichment of the genus Butyrivibrio being characteristic of this profile. Interestingly, an increase in Succinivibrio and Prevotella and a re-duction in Bacteroides genus were observed in HESN compared to HC, which is typical of HIV-infected individuals. Thus, HESNs have a microbiota profile, similar to that observed in HIV+, most likely because HESN are cohabiting with their HIV+ partners.

- ÍtemAbordaje de los síntomas desagradables y el cuidado paliativo en niños y adolescentes con leucemia por parte de enfermería(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Enfermería, Bucaramanga, 2022-09-22) Abreo Arguello, Nicol Tatiana; Villamizar Osorio, Magda LilianaLeukemia is a representative of cancer found in the blood, starting in the bone marrow, which leads to an uncontrolled increase in the production of white blood cells. Objective: To describe the management of the unpleasant symptoms of children and adolescents with leukemia from the palliative care carried out by the nursing professional based on scientific evidence. Methodology: A literature review study is carried out where the population taken as objective were research articles and scientific works, about the approach of unpleasant symptoms in palliative care in children and adolescents with leukemia by the nursing professional. Results: 55 articles are reviewed initially, after reading the articles, and applying inclusion-exclusion criteria and variables, 40 articles are selected in which it is shown that massage therapy (MT) can cause immediate relief of pain and anxiety in children with cancer receiving palliative care, generally, children with cancer who have received SPPC (specialized palliative care in pediatrics), which corresponds to the especially comprehensive medical, psychosocial and spiritual care provided by an interdisciplinary team of trained professionals, as well as it is important to highlight that music therapy to relieve symptoms in cancer patients and provide psychological, physiological, mental, social or intellectual benefits, based on the unpleasant symptoms classified in Elizabeth Lenz's theory . Conclusion: In the present investigation the importance of palliative care is highlighted, which begins from the moment of diagnosis, not only in the care of the symptoms of leukemia but also in other diseases, for this the importance of the theory is also taken. of Elizabeth Lenz and its relationship with the unpleasant symptoms produced by leukemia.
