Publicación Acceso abierto Seroprevalencia y evaluación molecular de coronavirus felino en Bucaramanga utilizando RT-PCR(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2018) Delgado Villamizar, Karen Yurani; Ruiz Sáenz, JuliánFeline coronavirus (FCoV), an endemic virus of worldwide distribution, which has a high transmission rate by direct contact, it causes a fatal systemic infection known as Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Nonetheless, the FIP will be developed in approximately 10% of seropositive cats to FCoV. FCoV is a positive chain RNA virus belonging to the Coronavirinae subfamily, genus Alphacoronavirus. 1. This study aimed at characterizing serologically and molecularly the FCoV infection in cats in Bucaramanga city, through a descriptive, cross-sectional study, where 96 felines were sampled (serum and feces). An ELISA technique was used (ImmunoComb®) RNA and RT-PCR extraction of the nps14 gene was done, the fragments obtained were sequenced using the SANGER method. The obtained sequences were analyzed by bioinformatics. MEGA 7, Clustal. A real prevalence of 84.6% was obtained in the evaluated population ([CI]= 77.43% y 91.85%). Among the evaluated variables, seropositivity was found in 76% of the males, 24% of the females, 66% of the group <1 year, 77% between 1 and 3 years, 61% of the group > 3 years, 69% of the group were mixed-race, 100% of the group were pure breed. 74% of the sterilized individuals and 62%. The RT - PCR showed the presence of the virus in 66 of the 96 samples evaluated, evidencing 13 false positives and 12 false negatives. The phylogenetic analysis showed the circulation of FCoV type I in the evaluated population, with the presence of three clusters evolutionarily related to strains reported in Japan, Holland and Indonesia. It was concluded that FCoV is an endemic virus presented in the feline population of Bucaramanga, which suggests a high risk of FIP. Isolated FCoVs show high genetic variability, which makes difficult to generate control strategies.Publicación Acceso abierto Co-circulation and simultaneous co-infection of dengue, chikungunya, and zika viruses in patients with febrile syndrome at the Colombian-Venezuelan border.(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2018-01-30) Ruiz-Saenz, Julian; Martinez-Gutierrez, Marlen; Carrillo Hernández, Marlen Yelitza; Jaimes Villamizar, Lucy; Gómez Rangel, Sergio YebrailPublicación Acceso abierto Low level of the immune response against rabies virus in dogs and cats - a cross-sectional study in sheltered animals, Santander, Colombia.(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2018-11) Ruiz-Saenz, Julian; Martínez Gutiérrez, Marlén; Trujillo-Rojas, Lina MaríaPublicación Acceso abierto Caracterizacion de problemas patologicos y malas posiciones en el proceso de incubación en pollos Broilers destinados para el consumo humano(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019) Barrera Machado, Cristian Camilo; Arcila, Victor; Rodriguez, CarlosPublicación Acceso abierto Implementacion y seguimiento de un plan de condicionamiento operante con refuerzo positivo para finalidades medicas en jirafas (Giraffa camelopardalis) en el Bioparque Ukumari - Pereira -Colombia(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-02-21) Uribe Niño, Astrid Carolina; Varela Arias, NéstorThe care given to animals that are found in zoological collections requires the search for new ways and better ways of power in a more secure and effective way to those of their size, weight, strength and temperament make it difficult to manage and represent a danger when trying to perform an adequate procedure to guarantee a better state of health within a captivity. Operational conditioning has been very useful in modern zoos and provides another option to handle any type of animal. In order to broaden knowledge about operant conditioning in zoos, an operative conditioning plan was carried out with positive reinforcement, through visual and auditory stimuli to the giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) that is part of the zoological collection. This is carried out in order to carry out preventive medical treatments and plans. The animal arrived at the Biopark It presents a generalized dermopathy, immunologically, with evidence of alopecia, excessive desquamation at the rostral level and keratitis on the body surface. The training is developed five times a week, for 15 to 20 minutes. The training schedule is defined in the treatment of the animal, the morning schedule is selected to work with him and he is already more receptive. The data collected during the observation stage are analyzed through frequency histograms where behaviors performed with greater repetition by the individual are evaluated, which is used in a favor in training. And it is digitized in the Microsoft Excel 2013 program where the behavior accumulation curves of the Individual 6 conditions were developed for 10 weeks. To which he responded favorably with successful results in most of the occasions, highlighting the tenth week where the highest degree of acceptability and conditioning for the sensitization behavior was obtained. A factor that helped us in the success, the project, the old zoo in Guadalajara, Mexico, where it was included, Otún, the male, the giraffes, and the classic conditioning plan for the realization of its treatment. Operational conditioning process with positive reinforcement performed in the facilities of the Ukumari Biopark. In the municipality of Cartago, north of the department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia.Publicación Acceso abierto Tropism and molecular pathogenesis of Canine Distemper Virus(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-03-07) Ruiz-Saenz, Julian; Rendon Marin, Santiago; da Fontoura Budaszewski, Renata; Wageck Canal, CláudioPublicación Acceso abierto Fotoperíodo y dinámica folicular en yeguas(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Villavicencio, 2019-06-14) Parrado Soler, Andrés Camilo; Fandiño Gomez, Jaiver Alexis; Lopera Vasquez, RicaurteThe mare is a seasonal polyester animal and has two specific events triggered by the photoperiod, an anovulatory and another ovulatory since this species needs the light intensity, this environmental signal is translated endocrine level in the pineal gland that secretes melatonin during the phase of darkness. In the mare, short days are associated with the drop in gonadotropin secretion and consequent decrease in ovarian activity and therefore seasonality of the estrous cycle. The present review includes recent studies related to the reproductive physiology of mares and cutting-edge methods for the stimulation of the estrous cycle, both pharmacological and artificial light for efficient reproduction of this species.Publicación Acceso abierto Evolution and Interspecies Transmission of Canine Distemper Virus-An Outlook of the Diverse Evolutionary Landscapes of a Multi-Host Virus(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-06-26) Ruiz Saenz, Julian; Duque Valencia, Julio; Sarute, Nicolás; Olarte Castillo, XimenaPublicación Acceso abierto Evaluación in silico de la interacción entre la Hemaglutinina del virus del distemper canino (CDV) con sus receptores celulares en diferentes especies(UdeA, 2019-07) Ruiz Saenz, Julian; Rendón Marín, Santiago; Quintero Gil, Carolina; Díaz, Francisco JavierPublicación Acceso abierto Prevalence and molecular typing of rotavirus in children with acute diarrhoea in Northeastern Colombia.(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-07-01) Ruiz Saenz, Julian; Martínez Gutiérrez, Marlén; Arcila Quiceno, Victor; Trejos Suarez, JuanitaPublicación Acceso abierto Protocolo de manejo y primeros auxilios para fauna silvestre en subestaciones de la electrificadora de Santander(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-07-19) Ordoñez Parra, Erika Isabel; Quintero Sanchez, Vladimirthe importance of a medical veterinary and zootecnist is in identify the factors that generate a slope or loss of wildlife, like the survival in a substations, and electrical networks after a contact or electrical discharge, it generated the need to developed this social practice, business and solidary whose main objective was to establis a first aid protocol and preventive management of wildlife in substations of the electrificadora de Santander, where real importance was given to these factors involed in the income of the animals on these substations. the evidence obtained was the result of past incidents that due to the entrance of the animals on these energized zones caused transformer explosions and blackouts for up to eight days, locative losses and wildlife they were registered affecting significantly the enviroment, its fauna, its flora and its own economy, as well as the continous visits to differents substations of the metropolitan area and its surroundings that were put an my disposal to make a diagnosis of the areas involved, infrastructure and wildlife management in case of encounters with the operators visit were made to the mains substations of the electrificadora de Santander located in the municipality of Bucaramanga and its surroundings what were, substation Bucaramanga, palos, Piedecuesta, palmas and central. Making references to acces roads and accidents management of wildlife, sincethe means of entry to the subtations, they facilitate the acces of differents species of wildlife and domestic among wich are denoted mamals cuith faras or opossum reptils as iguanas, companion animals such as felines, canines, birds perched on structures and electrical networks, reptils ofidios of the genus boidae, elapids and vipers such as the boa constrictor, coral, mapana, spe x, wasp clarge representation, choropteris such as bats, frugivoris and hematophagous and rodents such as squirras and rats training was also carried out to identify poisonous and non poisonous reptiles as well as the proper handling in case of meeting with operators to avoid ophidian type accidents. In the area of preventive management we have the presence african snail or achatina fulica in the substations, where were carried out days of erradication of this species, sensitization to the operators about the dangers and diseases that these animal carry that are exotic origin, among other activities, that in summary the importance of the veterinary of the management, control and prevention of diseases.Publicación Acceso abierto Manual de diagnóstico citológico de procesos neoplásicos en perros y gatos en la Clínica Veterinaria Kanicat(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Programa de Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-07-26) Perez Molina, Laura Marcela; Duarte Rodríguez, Luz Zoraya BeatrizCytology of neoplastic processes requires mainly discipline; this technique is often used as an approach to diagnosis in many veterinary centers, although many prefer to obtain a histopathology result directly. Certainly, the latter technique in most cases gives a definitive result but cytology is much cheaper and faster, plus, with the appropriate processing and personnel can also reach a definitive diagnosis. In the development of the degree modality, a sampling of a large part of the patients who arrived at Clinica Veterinaria Kanicat was carried out, most of the samples were taken after its surgical extraction in order to obtain a presumptive or definitive diagnosis in less time and avoid the 15 days that histopathology results require, being able to make almost immediate decision about the life of the patients. In addition, a registry of the casuistry was made considering specie, age, sex, race and neoplasia presented to determine most frequent cases and obtain greater knowledge about it. The documentation allows both the clinical laboratory department and the veterinarians to gain experience in this field, diagnose and treat more quickly, in the same way that they save costs by avoiding sending samples to histopathological analysis unnecessarily.Publicación Acceso abierto Implementación de omega 3 y 6 en la dieta de un equino (cuarto de milla) reproductor estabulado para valorar la calidad seminal(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Arauca, 2019-08-12) León Mijares, Oscar Hernando; Carvajal Molina, Fabian; Perez Cárdenas, Alexis CardenasFatty acids have been of great importance in the diets of different species, it has also been seen that it helps to improve the reproductive characteristics of males, which has led to become the object of study in different lines of research. The objective of this investigation was to implement the Ω 3 and Ω6 in the diet of a stable equine quarter mile to analyze the changes at the sperm level caused by the consumption of these fatty acids, taking a sample of semen before starting the diet and a month after implemented, adding it in the daily dose of concentrate used in the feeding of this, taking into account that the sample had concentrate feed and grass cutting commonly, to compare these results, taking into account that several investigations in this area but they have not been specific for which specific ranges were assessed as concentration, motility, viability and morphology, finding a small improvement at the seminal level in the last sample with respect to the sample taken at the beginning before implementing the diet with Ω 3 and Ω6, which leads to the conclusion that these fatty acids in a standard dose Hoisting could be used as a treatment of reproductive problems at the spermatic level in males.Publicación Acceso abierto Origin of canine distemper virus: consolidating evidence to understand potential zoonoses.(Frontiers Group, 2019-08-28) Ruiz-Saenz, Julian; Martinez-Gutierrez, MarlenPublicación Acceso abierto Brazil burning! This negative energy balance can be observed by means of the corporal condition scale since during lactation the cows lose body condition. The unbalance of essential minerals for carrying out the reproductive process of each animal is practically affected and goes hand in hand with the BEN, where they will get reproductive problems.Publicación Restringido Aplicativo digital de imágenes ecográficas abdominales y cardíacas como material didáctico para la clínica veterinaria animales de compañía ucc(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-09-11) Vanegas Boada, Mayra Alejandra; Arcila Quiceno, Víctor HernánOne of the basic diagnostic tools in the management of the daily clinic is ultrasound, since it provides support to the clinician in solving the different cases that may occur; allowing to obtain images in real time, which give us a more detailed approach to the diagnosis based on anatomical structures and their different findings. Reason why they are currently used as routine methods in the practice of Veterinary Medicine. This together with the innovation of mobile applications, which are based on the fact that, when installing one of them, the user uses his mobile device as a source of knowledge search immediately, quickly and efficiently, this makes it necessary to create a ultrasound application that allows the user interested in the subject to quickly obtain information on this diagnostic technique which is gaining strength day by dayPublicación Acceso abierto Manual de nutrición para primates en cautiverio del parque zoológico Guátika en Tibasosa-Boyacá(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-09-16) Patiño Castillo, Paula Andrea; Quintero Sanchez, VladimirWhen mentioning the issue of animals in captivity the main aspect that is considered is their well-being in all the sense of the word, but however there is a matter of vital importance and it is related to food. In this respect it is essential to correctly and correctly evaluate the best options that can be offered to improve their living conditions in the zoos where they cohabit. This context gives rise to think of an adequate diet where clear criteria are established in order to provide the best condition of diets and balance in animals that remain in captivity; these diets must contain the necessary nutrients so that they can live a healthy and quality life. Thus, as set as a goal, to design a nutrition manual that adapts to the physiological and nutritional needs of the different species of primates belonging to the collection of the Guátika zoo, during 20 weeks of work. For its elaboration and practice, information related to the body condition of animals, processes of obtaining and handling food were taken into account, the basic information on the diet of each species and the typical diets related to each of them; it sought to improve the existing program of feeding primates, obtaining good results, in which the well-being offered by the Zoological Park of Guátika will be improved.Publicación Restringido Protocolo de recepción, valoración, descontaminación y marcaje por medio de elastomeros a especies de fauna silvestre afectadas por hidrocarburos y sus derivados(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-10-04) Mejia Gomez, July Tatiana; Palencia Murillo, Yenny CristinaWildlife is of great importance for the study and work of veterinarians whose purpose is to preserve, conserve, protect and ensure the welfare of animals. During the last few years there has been a great deterioration and alteration of the environment and, therefore, an affectation of the wild fauna, being one of the main detriments the spill of hydrocarbons affecting fauna adjacent to the emergency; based on this, it is necessary to elaborate a protocol for the attention and decontamination of wild fauna species affected by hydrocarbons and their derivatives. The results obtained from this protocol were the compilation of information based on the attention of petroleum fauna, handling and manipulation of elements for physical restriction, toxicology and veterinary pharmacology. The recovery of wild fauna affected by hydrocarbon spills is based on complex and extensive procedures, for which a series of processes are developed which contribute to the implementation of a contingency plan for the care and rehabilitation of petroleum fauna, this need arises with the emergency occurred by the oil spill in Barrancabermeja, Santander.Publicación Acceso abierto Censo canino y felino en la ciudad de Bucaramanga Santander comuna 7 y 17(Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina Veterinaría y Zootecnia, Bucaramanga, 2019-10-09) Ospino Salas, Alberto Mario; González Ospino, Paula Andrea; Arcila Quiceno, Víctor HernánThe present work is a quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study, whose objective is to determine the population and the zoo demographic characteristics of canines and felines in the homes of communes 7 and 17 of the city of Bucaramanga, Santander, obtaining the information concerning this through the use of a direct survey, of closed questions, carried out door to door, to the owners, holders or the personal assistant of the pets, to make a database that can be used for later projects. The canine and feline population of community 7 and 17 was estimated in 292 and 94 animals, respectively. In the case of commune 7, there were 222 canines and 70 felines; the 71% of households owned only dogs, 11% only owned cats and the 18% owned both species. In the case of commune 17, there were 17 canines and 77 felines, 24.1% of households were found to have only dogs, 65.5% had only cats and 10.3% had both species. In the case of the community, 7 in the results obtained for the canines, the males represented 50.9% and 49.1% females; males being only 1.80% higher. As for felines, the number of females was higher than males by 25.7%, females representing 62.9% of the population and males 37.1%. Likewise, for community 17, the classification by sex, in the case of canines, males represent 52.9% and females 47.1%, males being 5.8% higher, in terms of felines, the number of females was superior to males by 16.8%, females representing 58.4% of the population and males 41.6%. The zoo demographic indicators that refers to the composition by sex and age distribution of the canine and feline population of communes 7 and 17 of the municipality of Bucaramanga show a predominant inclination towards the possession of females in the case of felines and males in the case of the canines, however in general, the tendency was inclined to the possession of young animals.
