Resumen
The low coffee production from the Department of Huila (Colombia) during the years 2009-2012 which production fell by 33.0 % on average, has been attributed to agro climate and diseases, but usually the socioeconomic status of producers has been ignored as a factor that can influence positively or negatively on production. With the first phase of this descriptive research process, socioeconomic status of Huila’s coffee producer to infer whether these variables may affect coffee production, it was identified. The required information was collected through a survey structured of characterization of socioeconomic factors, made with 454 coffee producers from Huila department. It was found that age and schooling of the producer may be the two factors which have most impact on coffee production.
