Resumen
The outpatient and hospitalisation areas constitute the highest risk areas in a veterinary clinic, in conjunction with the surgical procedures room, this is due to the constant flow of sick animals and handling of medicines, instruments and other chemical products; this is why it is essential to have critical biosecurity control points in these areas. The social, business and solidarity practice was developed at the veterinary clinic Zamudio Pet Company Sede Sur S.A.S; located at Ingenio neighborhood in the city of Cali-Valle del Cauca. The first step was the identification of the main risk factors and weaknesses of the biosecurity system managed in the establishment; the information collected should be classified and organised into protocols for both areas, developing strategies and taking into account the outline of the bibliography of both veterinary and human hospitals and the existing regulations in Colombia. With all the information collected, a biosafety manual was created for the outpatient and hospitalisation areas. This manual is composed of four protocols applicable to both areas: cleaning and disinfection protocol, individual biosecurity protocol, considerations and habits protocol and waste and excreta management protocol. These protocols were summarised as posters, which are available in all offices and hospitalisation area, having permanent access to them, to ensure compliance.
