Introduction: The present investigation, the studies on attention deficit and hyperactivity in children and adolescents who are in alternative care. Attention deficit is a disorder characterized by the inability to maintain attention in tasks that require sustained mental effort and in which children and adolescents tend to be easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli. There is evidence on the presence of ADHD in children and adolescents in alternative care, which affects various areas of their lives, so it is necessary to investigate in order to achieve a better quality of life. Objective and Methodology: The main objective was to review the databases to access the research that focused on the search for studies. The attention deficit and hyperactivity in children and adolescents who are in alternative care. Fifty documents were consulted among articles, theses and books, which contained research that met the inclusion criteria. The consulted databases were: Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar. Results: The studies reviewed show that in Colombia there is a high prevalence of ADHD, much higher than in other studies conducted in other parts of the world. The problems in various areas of functioning of adolescents living in residential care compared to preadolescents and adolescents living with their families of origin have been informed by previous studies. According to the review carried out in Latin America, with respect to the subject matter, which stands out for offering a variety of studies, which affirm that both children and adolescents in alternative care, do not have the relevant intervention on the part of their parents caregivers for to enjoy a relevant quality of life. Conclusions: During the placement offered to children in alternative care, it is important that not only the coverage of basic needs be guaranteed for them, but also interventions aimed at attention and behavioral problems are offered.
